Internet of Things (IoT) technology is poised for a breakout year in 2020 as companies in the early majority market segment begin to invest in IoT-related projects. A major hurdle for these efforts is the chronic shortage of technologists who understand the specialized non-IP networks often used for data collection from sensors on the edge. In addition, few security experts are familiar with techniques used to secure networks when hundreds or even thousands of edge devices are connected through non-IP networks, each providing a unique attack surface.
